Cinemagraphic triptych “The holocene”

“The Holocene” cinemagraphs combine photography, video and animation in this triptych which traces the interplay of Nature and Humanity in a collage comprised of individually photographed natural elements on water + underwater. Each cinemagraph symbolises varying environmental timelines, together presenting a cyclic visual formation.

Despite early glimpses of harmonious co-existence with nature, humanity’s mismastery of the planet presents us with immense uncertainty of reconciliation with our natural world."

This artwork was commissioned by Brisbane City Council as part of the Digital Art Collection within the wider Pubic Art Collection. It was included in the 2022 “Botanica”

  • “Embryo” (centre) contain primitive lifeforms + foraged flora, suspended in our early, untouched environment.

“Crown” (left) The glorious beauty and abundance of earth’s enriched garden, violated by flame, an increasing reality of destructive consequences for humanity‘s developed world.
